Valuing Gardens

I don't think the Government can deliver nature recovery strategies without including private gardens.

Individually they may be small but accumulatively they cover large areas surrounding and joining up isolated nature reserves.

Data on gardens is very limited and difficult to source but that shouldn't stop the environment profession from ignoring this very important and life affirming resource. To ignore garden habitat is to ignore the positive power of people in recovering wild species.

Given the threat of loosing gardens to tarmac, sheds and plastic grass, its important we find a way whether that's changing legislation, policy or something we else.

In this brief paper I set out 8 different ways that this could be done.
